Down here in the humid south, plywood seems to just be a sponge for moisture. Damp plywood makes for one heavy ramp, and it seems to just dissolve after a while. If so, how is it designed? I have access to really good metal and an excellent welder to build a ramp, but we want to do it right. And preferably without the danged plywood. Tags: None. Might be a stupid question, but have you considered marine ply? Or sealing the ply with something?

My Shadow all-aluminum has a great mat that is not rubber, more like carpet type material that is like the hook side of velcro. It's a bear to sweep manure off if it, but it hoses off nicely with pressure. Definitely no slippage. Someone told me that it is very expensive stuff. So, if you can get to a Shadow dealer, check out what they have on the ramp. My ramp is so light that I can lift it with one hand.
There are friends and faces that may be forgotten, but there are horses that never will be. Or use "L" channel to hold the mat on? Or use that open-mesh metal , like some small utility trailers are built of - it's pretty light. Must be well supported underneath, tho. I had my Hawk trailer made with rumber in my side ramp, back ramp, and in the peak of the gooseneck. I did not want plywood anywhere since even marine plywood evenually rots.
Marine plywood rots eventually too, and the plywood is sandwiched between rubber and metal so it gets no ventilation. My thought was to use angle iron for the frame, and then a thicker sheet metal to lay the mat on. Of course this would all have to be braced, but I guess I was more looking for reassurance in how the whole thing is designed.
I would tend to over-engineer this, which would make it heavier than necessary. From online pics, it looks like the Rice trailers from overseas have a similar design. Anyone know if they use plywood? I will look into the Rumber. Is that a rubber board, or what? Have you checked out composite decking boards? The two panes need to be bonded, and we were told that takes 10 working days. I guess so, except that you are left wondering about what the heck just happened.
If we lived in a less sophisticated age, the idea of a big bird breaking your window might be taken as some kind of divine sign. It might be cause to, say, go on a pilgrimage or at least try to be a better person. I have spent some time wondering about the physics involved. How fast does it have to be moving?
I barely made it through high school physics and someone else would have to solve that problem. What if we had been sitting next to the window? What if we had been out of town on vacation when the window broke?
What if the hawk had gotten inside the house? One of the guys from the glass company told us about an owl that broke through a window and caused all sorts of damage and assorted mayhem inside the house. Those types of questions point toward the conclusion that a broken window is a bad thing to have but not as bad as many other possible outcomes in life. I am glad that the hawk survived its crash into the glass. And I will be very happy when the boards are gone from the window.
Village board members voted on Jan. Much has been written about the truck ordinance over the last 30 years and there is not much else to say. At some point, I suppose, the village board in Flossmoor thought the driveway ban made perfect sense in a town that was known for its affluent lifestyle. Those board members considered Flossmoor to be an exceptional community and that the truck ban would help keep it that way. This post was contributed by a community member.

I'd like to say we're in home stretch now but given that the remodel was supposed to be completed in weeks, I don't want to be foolish.
